Deutsche Bank Launches US Military Veterans Outreach Program

Signs Statement of Support of the Guard and Reserve; Kicks Off Veterans On Wall Street (VOWS)

Deutsche Bank Americas CEO Seth Waugh, Assistant Secretary of Defense for Reserve Affairs Dennis McCarthy, and senior members of the United States Armed Forces rang The Opening BellSM at the New York Stock Exchange this morning to launch the Bank’s US veterans outreach program, a broad initiative designed to attract, retain and develop former military personnel. The centerpiece of Deutsche Bank’s initiative will be Veterans on Wall Street (VOWS), a new organization that will include an employee group to promote career development and support for veterans inside Deutsche Bank, as well as an annual conference and other events open to veterans who are current or prospective employees of the financial services industry. The Bank will host the first annual VOWS conference in 2011.

Deutsche Bank kicked off the program this morning by signing a Statement of Support of the National Guard and Reserve, pledging the following:

  • To continually recognize and support our country’s service members and their families in peace, in crises and in war.
  • To fully recognize, honor and enforce the Uniformed Services Employment and Re-Employment Rights Act (USERRA).
  • To ensure their managers and supervisors will have the tools they need to effectively manage those employees who serve in the Guard and Reserve.

In addition to Secretary McCarthy, other senior officials present at the signing ceremony were Commanding General of the United States Army Reserve, Lieutenant General Jack Stultz; Adjutant General of the Massachusetts National Guard, Major General Joseph Carter; Adjutant General of the New York National Guard, Brigadier General Patrick Murphy; and Senior Enlisted Advisor for the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Reserve Affairs, Command Sergeant Major John Gipe.

“The military consistently produces great leaders at all levels of their organization, and we see tremendous potential for Deutsche Bank and other companies to utilize the leadership skills and training they receive during their service to their country,” said Seth Waugh. “We are humbled by the commitment and sacrifice demonstrated by our men and women in uniform and are proud to support them as they move into the private sector.”

PGA TOUR professional and defending champion of the Deutsche Bank Championship Steve Stricker was also on hand to mark the opening of the Eighth Annual Deutsche Bank Championship Golf tournament held at the Tournament Players Club Boston in Norton, Mass., from Tues, Aug. 31 through Mon, Sept. 6. This year the event will feature an expanded program for members of the military, including a new Military Patriot Outpost hospitality center and complimentary admission to all active, reserve and retired military service members and their dependents throughout the week.

VOWS is patterned after Women on Wall Street (WOWS), a successful networking and development group for women in the financial industry that was created by Deutsche Bank in 1995. WOWS’ flagship annual conference attracts more than 2,500 attendees throughout the financial industry, selling out in 35 minutes in 2009.
