Charley Hoffman wins Deutsche Bank Championship

The Deutsche Bank Championship (DBC), a Labor Day tradition and a 72-hole PGA TOUR Playoff event for the FedEx Cup, celebrated golf sportsmanship, family entertainment, military appreciation, and much more from 31 August to 6 September at TPC Boston.

As a backdrop, hurricane Earl scraped the New England area overnight on Friday, 3 September, creating some concern prior to the first round of the competition. Luckily, this force of nature had no significant impact on the local weather or the tournament. Throughout the Championship, crowds enjoyed clear blue skies as they cheered for the world’s top golfers.

During round one, Friday, 3 September, the threesome of Jason Day, Zach Johnson and Ryan Palmer combined for a remarkable 23-under par. For round two, Saturday, 4 September, Day and Brandt Snedeker shared the lead with a 12-under par as Tiger Woods rebounded, turning his game around. Round three, Sunday, 5 September, Day kept his lead with a 17-under par and a one-shot lead over Snedeker. On the final day, Monday, 6 September, Charley Hoffman rallied during round four to shoot a 9-under 62. This was the best finish by a winner at TPC Boston since the tour began in 2003.

Prior to the tournament, the Pro-Am competition on Thursday, 2 September, provided a memorable round of golf as 52 of the top golfers were paired with Deutsche Bank clients and senior management. This year, a group headed by pro Anthony Kim and four juniors took the leading spot.

In addition to client entertainment, military appreciation was a focal point of the tournament. As part of the DBC Military Appreciation Program, all active, reserve and retired military service members and their dependents received complimentary admission for each day of the tournament. A carbon neutral event, the Championship has become a leader in sustainability. DBC achieved net zero carbon emissions for the third time and remains the only carbon neutral event on the PGA TOUR.

The Championship is also a family event with various family programs and amenities including Kids Village and Kids Zones. Kids Village, an outdoor entertainment complex, provided families with interactive activities, while Kids Zones provided special areas for the youngest fans to view the golf action.
