Deutsche Bank Championship wins Golf Digest’s Junior Development Award

Deutsche Bank Championship (DBC) has been honored with Golf Digest’s 2011 Junior Development Award. This annual award recognizes premier youth programs that teach kids the skills to become proficient golfers as well as the life skills needed to succeed in the world. Deutsche Bank received the corporate accolade category for its positive impact on juniors.

Since 2003, DBC has generated USD 19.5m in charitable contributions and hundreds of millions of dollars in economic activity for the New England region. DBC charitable contributions support organizations such as the Hockomock Area YMCA, the Stop & Shop Giant Family Foundation and the Tiger Woods Learning Center’s youth programs. Tournament proceeds are also used to sponsor the Deutsche Bank Partners for Charity Junior Shoot Out—an American Junior Golf Association event featuring the top 96 male and female golfers, ages of 12-18—and to aid The First Tee of Massachusetts’s educational programs for underprivileged and at-risk youth. In addition, Deutsche also supports the John D. Mineck DBC Junior Cup, a two-day Ryder Cup format competition that runs concurrently with the Championship, showcasing 36 of the nation’s top junior golfers, ages 11-18.

Seth Waugh, Member of the Group Executive Committee and CEO, Deutsche Bank Americas, noted “We are so very proud to receive this award. From day one, the Deutsche Bank Championship has been about contributing; both to the community and to the development of young people.  We believe that the game of golf is life enhancing.  It promotes strong ethical values and the character development it takes to be successful at home, in school and beyond.”

The 2011 Deutsche Bank Championship, scheduled for August 30 - September 5, enters its fifth year as a PGA TOUR Playoff event and is the second of four stops in the PGA tour Playoffs for the FedExCup. The tournament's distinguished list of champions includes defending champion Charley Hoffman, Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, Vijay Singh, Steve Stricker and Adam Scott.
