On Saturday, August 17, Deutsche Bank Peru participated in a day of volunteering, where staff worked with the Global Heritage Fund in partnership with the Ministry of Culture to help with conservation projects at the Pachacamac Sanctuary. A religious complex in the pre-Columbian Andean world, the Sanctuary is described as the most important archaeological site throughout the Pacific Rim of South America. It is located 30 minutes from Lima, Peru and extends over an area of approximately 460 hectares.

Employees, interns and their families spent the day performing conservation services. After a brief overview of the Sanctuary and the process of conservation, volunteers were divided into three groups who all worked under the supervision of the site’s Curator of Architecture. One group cleaned the walls and signs along the site’s Route of the Pilgrims, a second group grouted sections of a wall that has lost its original mortar to help retain a wall that was excavated in the late 1950s and had never been fixed, and a third group made adobe bricks for later use in the conservation of some structures of the Sanctuary. The groups rotated throughout the day so everyone could experience each task.

Deutsche Bank Peru, through the Deutsche Bank Americas Foundation, has been supporting to Global Heritage Fund for the past three years.
